Low Fat Recipes

Healthy living always equates to eating low fat foods. Sadly, following low fat recipes is not the easiest things in the world to do, owing to the thousands of tempting highly saturated fatty food choices available in the market today. However, you know you need a low fat recipe for you to lead a healthy lifestyle and avoid opportunistic health conditions such as obesity and high cholesterol issues. The secret of a low fat recipe is to get rid of all bad fats and replace them with healthy fats.

There are so many benefits of following a low fat recipe. For one, you get to cut down on your daily calorie intake and your daily fat intake. Secondly, you will be sure of consuming nutrient rich foods that will help keep your body strong and nourish all body cells and facilitate optimal metabolism. Eating a low fat diet also means you will be consuming fewer fats, which will reduce cholesterol levels. Reduced cholesterol levels lead to reduced risks of diabetes, cancer, and heart diseases to mention but a few.

Some quick substitutions made in low fat recipes include:-
1. Replace your favourite crumbled bacon with an equal amount of sun-dried tomatoes
2. Replace the mayo or sour cream with plan, low fat yogurt
3. Replace oil that you need for sautéing your vegetables with vegetable or chicken broth
4. Replace 1/3 cup of oil or butter with unsweetened apple sauce
5. Replace the use of heavy cream with low fat milk or evaporated skim milk

Following is a sample low fat recipe that does not compromise on the taste or nutritious value of the meal.

Salmon Teriyaki Stir-Fry

Ingredients
1. A bunch of finely chopped green onions
2. Pepper and salt for seasoning
3. A cup of low fat teriyaki sauce
4. 2 cups of white rice (this will be determined by the number of guests for the meal)
5. 3 tiny fresh salmon fish fillets (you can also use 2 large salmon fish fillets) (this will equally be determined by the number of guests for the meal)

Instructions
1. Take your cooking pot or pan and sauté the finely chopped green onions
2. Take the salmon and cut into one inch cubes
3. Flavour the salmon by sprinkling pepper and salt over the salmon
4. Add the sliced salmon cubes into the sautéed green onions
5. Allow the salmon to cook until it changes colour
6. Take another pot and cook 2 the two cups of rice
7. Once cooked, mix the salmons and onions with the cooked rice, add your teriyaki sauce and allow to mix evenly until everything is coated with the sauce
8. Serve while hot
